Level 3 PETbc Accredited Dog Behaviour Diploma
The Dog Behaviour Diploma courses are written from a neutral standpoint, offering the latest info and studies, the newest understanding of social structure in dogs, and debating hot topics such as dominance in dogs. This course will get you thinking about dogs and dog behaviour like never before.
This course is unique for many reasons. It is the first dog behaviour course to study and consider both Positive Reward Training and its application in the human-dog relationship, and the more physical world of dog behaviour between dogs. Find yourself immersed in the debate of topics such as pack structure, appeasement gestures, the need for an authority figure, and the relevant scientific studies. Do dogs act? Is dominance actually insecurity? Is all aggression fear based? Does dominance even exist?
Far from a course that exists to merely educate from one perspective, this dog behaviour course will challenge everything you thought you knew about dogs and dog psychology, calling on the work of Fisher, Scott and Fuller, Bruce Fogle, Ray and Lorna Coppinger, Stephen Budiansky, Ian Dunbar and many more leading experts.
On completion, the student will:
- Have learned the difference between how dogs learn, and how dogs behave
- Have a greater understanding of both dog training and dog psychology
- Have examined the most recent studies and debates in the world of dog behaviour and training, and encouraged to formulate their own opinion based on experience and research
- Have a better understanding of key subjects such as: socialisation, communication, the origins of the dog and evolution
- Have a better understanding of the importance of the role of the owner, human moods, temperament, personality, morality and their affects on the dog
- Be able to recognise key body language, gestures and signals of the dog
- Be able to diagnose classic behavioural problems and put their new knowledge of dog training and natural dog behaviour into effect for possible basic solutions
- Have a greater understanding of what is required for a dog to be happy, healthy, well behaved, and mentally balanced
- In essence, what it truly is to be a good dog owner or carer

Melanie Wignall –
I would like to thank you for your help, support, guidance and knowledge throughout the course, which I have enjoyed immensely. The course was originally for interest but highlighted that I didn’t know as much as I thought that I did with regards to canines! Although I enjoyed the course, it has also been a massive help with my rescue dog in helping me understand things such as prey drive and fear aggression. I have had many compliments on how much Poppy has changed since I rescued her a year ago! Friends are astonished that she is a totally different dog in such a short space of time. Many thanks again.
Harry –
Having owned, bred, trained and shown GSDs for over 30 years, I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge of how to get the best out of dogs. The course is making me research into things more and giving me a great insight into the science behind it all and to large extent helping me to understand WHY. I am already learning an awful lot. Harry, Dog Behaviour Diploma Student and Kennel Manager, Leeds

Since starting this course I have learned so much and it has recently come in handy at my work [as a veterinary nurse] as it helped me identify key issues which saved a dog from being euthanized. Because of this I would like to pass on my sincere thanks. Nikki, Fife, Scotland

I am in the process of doing this course and i have to say its the best thing ive ever done. You have no idea how much you dont know when you thought you new so much……until now. I have been able to help a few of my friends with their dogs because of a more indepth knowledge of the canine mind. The BCCS is the way to go. When ive completed this course ive decided to go the whole mile and do the Dog Practitioner diploma and i know i will enjoy it just as much as this one.
Christine Franks –
I have recently qualified with a merit in the dog behaviour diploma. I can honestly say that the course was one of the best things I have ever done. I have bred English Springer Spaniels for a number of years and thought I had quite a broad knowledge of dogs, until I started on this course ! Not only will the knowledge I have gained help me within my own kennels but it will inevitably help me support prospective buyers of my puppies. Thank you so much for all your help. Regards, Christine.
Norma –
Just got the Certificate! I am very impressed by the content of the course. There is so much to continue to revise and research. I am looking forward to helping and advising dog owners, whilst continuing to build on what I have gained from the units. Although the first units are simple and quite easy to answer, the content becomes increasingly more in depth with much to think about and research as it progresses. I have had consistent support as I worked through them with all my questions answered promptly. I would recommend the college and any of the courses. I no longer own a dog but enjoy caring for others in my home for friends and neighbours. The course means that the dogs and I can have the best experience. Much thanks to my tutor and Ruby (my recent day care Chihuahua who also had much to teach me) regards Norma
