Dog Law Certificate

With dog bites on the increase and new laws surrounding dogs both in public and in the home, it is becoming more important than ever for every day dog owners, as well as anyone working with dogs in any capacity, to understand the law as it actually relates to us on a practical basis. Knowledge is power and ignorance is no defence in a court of law.

This Dog Law course covers key pieces of legislation in an easy to understand format that explains all of the terminology and gives examples of how these laws relate to us practically as dog owners, dog lovers, rescuers, trainers, behaviourists and other canine professionals.

On completion the student will:

  • Have an understanding of the law relating to welfare, control and any amendments including the highly controversial Breed Specific Legislation, as well as the implications of breaking these laws.
  • Know about how case law affects current cases in this constantly evolving area of law.
  • Will be aware of the responsibilities, restrictions and duties that are placed upon us when we commit to dog ownership, or take responsibility for a dog through our work.

Unit Breakdown:

  • Unit One – The Law Explained & Animals Act 1971
  • Unit Two – Breed Specific Legislation
  • Unit Three – Keeping Dogs under Proper Control
  • Unit Four – Status & Weapons Dogs
  • Unit Five – Dog Welfare Law
  • Unit Six – Travel With Your Dog
  • Unit Seven – Responsible Dog Ownership

This Dog Law course is also available with the Dog Behaviour Diploma as a Combo and the Advanced Canine Behaviour Diploma as a Combo.
